Henna is a plant based die that can stain the skin. The henna paste is derived from dried and powdered leaves of the henna plant (lawsone inermis).
Cones similar to icing cones are filled with this paste, which is mixed with lemon juice and pure essential oils, and applied to the skin.
The henna paste itself is dark green, almost black in color.
When henna paste is left on the skin for six to eight hours and removed, it leaves a reddish brown stain. The color darkens up to a dark cherry depending on skin type over the next 24 hours, and lasts for approximately one to two weeks. There is only one color/shade that henna is capable of.
